Spring Practice’s First Day

A good turnout
The first day of spring practice was a brisk one, as Kathy Amicucci’s outfit attested, though presumably she’s finding comfort in knowing she’s got some good players back — Sam Merritt, Maddie Schenck, the Swansons, Isabella and Sophia, and Raven Biondo among them. Jack Graves

The turnouts were large, the coaches were sanguine, and the athletes were eager on Monday, the first day of spring practice at East Hampton High School.

Jessica Sanna, the new girls lacrosse coach, said she had worked with most of her charges throughout the winter at the high school, where Lisa Farbar has been strengthening and conditioning them, and at Southampton Youth Services.

Likewise, baseball and softball players have been competing in the off-season, not to mention the boys tennis team’s top three — Jack Louchheim, Jonny de Groot, and Ravi MacGurn — who have been training over the winter at the Ross School.

Katie Helfand, who has returned as the boys tennis coach, thinks her team can three-peat when it comes to a league title, though she hopes to strengthen the team’s doubles play. Softball’s lineup will include at least four strong players, among them Maddie Schenck, Isabella Swanson, Sophia Swanson, and Raven Biondo, all of whom played travel ball.

Jacqui Thorsen, Lucy Emptage, and Hollie Schleicher are expected to lead the girls lacrosse team.
