A pair of working wood ducks attributed to Chief Eugene Cuffee of the Shinnecock Reservation was sold at auction last year for $8,250, well over its estimate of $4,000 to $6,000.
A rare sleeping black duck with “raised extended wingtips, fine feather paint detail, and sleepy eyes,” above, also estimated at $4,000 to $6000, went for $7,500 last week, while five other Cuffee decoys, among them the willet with shoe-button eyes, below, brought a total of $5,050.
