An interior view of JanGeorge in Sag Harbor Durell Godfrey
With a year and a half of business in Sag Harbor behind them, the duo who own the eponymous JanGeorge, a design studio and retail shop selling European antiques and sleek Italian furniture and lighting, are expanding into East Hampton.
Jan Oostdijk-Rutgers and George Rutgers, both interior designers who hail from the Netherlands, plan to open their new digs in February at 55 Main Street, on the alley that is also home to a Ralph Lauren store, Eres, Aesop, and Turpan. They are seeking a sales associate for part-time help, which will become full time in May.
“We felt it would be a good thing to have a presence in East Hampton, and that alley is perfect for us,” said Mr. Oostdijk-Rutgers.
The pair’s first American store was in Key West, where it thrived, but they shuttered it to move to 11 Madison Street in Sag Harbor in the spring of 2012.
In describing their aesthetic, Mr. Oostdijk-Rutgers explained, “We try to blend high-end European designed furniture with antique accents.” But essentially the store is a calling card for their interior design firm. "It's a beautifully curated space so we can show clients what we can do for their homes."
