Patti Smith Adds Surprise Montauk Date

Patti Smith, the legendary New York singer, songwriter, and poet, will perform Saturday at the Surf Lodge in Montauk in a concert announced at the last minute. The $40-per-person ticket cost will be donated to the Montauk Playhouse Foundation, according to the Surf Lodge Web site. Advance purchases of up to four tickets per transaction can be made online at

Doors open at 5 p.m. Ms. Smith is to perform at about 7. Yacht, an electronic duo out of Portland, Ore., were scheduled to perform at 8 p.m. Saturday and may do an opening set before Ms. Smith goes on.

Ms. Smith plays Sunday at 8 p.m. at Guild Hall in East Hampton in a sold-out show with Lenny Kaye, Tony Shanahan, and Jesse Smith.

The Montauk Playhouse is a town-owned community center and has been raising money for an ongoing capital campaign to add an indoor swimming pool, among other things.
