East Hampton Town said yesterday that it was suggesting a voluntary, town-wide evacuation. However more clarity may come after a 10 a.m. meeting at Town Hall today that will be dedicated to Hurricane Irene and preparing for its aftermath.
On Friday, Southampton Town issued a call for voluntary evacuations: "Please be advised that residents who live in low lying areas within a half mile of the ocean or bay should plan to evacuate. These areas are flood zones. Make arrangements to stay with friends or family who live further inland. If you do not have friends or family in the area, plan to stay in a hotel or motel further inland. The course of the storm may require a mandatory evacuation for these areas on Saturday morning."
Southampton Town has an lot of information about evacuation and storm preparation on its Web site, southamptontownny.gov.
