Peak wind gusts have exceeded 64 knots at the NOAA buoy moored 30 nautical miles south of Islip.

Northeast winds are forecast for the remainder of Monday with gusts up to 80 knots. A shift to the east and then the southeast is expected with winds gradually subsiding to a still-dangerous 50 knots though Tuesday.
