The League of Women Voters of the Hamptons will mark National Voter Registration Day on Tuesday by distributing voter registration forms and absentee ballot applications in English and Spanish in South Fork communities. The state deadline for mail-in voter registration for the Nov. 6 general election is Oct. 12.

Representatives of the league will disseminate forms, answer questions, and distribute nonpartisan information on the election from noon to 2 p.m. outside the post offices in Montauk, Amagansett, East Hampton, Bridgehampton, and Hampton Bays. The organization will also set up registration tables outside One Stop Market in East Hampton and Schiavoni’s Market in Sag Harbor. It will be at the Rogers Memorial Library in Southampton from 4 to 6 p.m.

According to a press release, many people miss the registration deadline, move, or change their name without re-registering, thus missing out on exercising their right to vote. National Voter Registration Day was launched in 2012 to bring attention to the importance of registering on time. It is held on the fourth Tuesday in September.
