Southampton Town to Hold Opioid Vigil

Southampton Town will hold an opioid candlelight vigil on Saturday, an attempt to shed light on the opioid epidemic and remember those who have died from it. Family members and friends have been invited to attend the vigil at Good Ground Park at 9A Squiretown Road in Hampton Bays from 7 to 9 p.m.

"While the number of deaths have declined since we first started the Opioid Task Force in 2017, the number of Narcan saves are up, which indicates we still have a problem," Supervisor Jay Schneiderman said. Narcan is the brand name of naloxone, which, if administered in time, counteracts an opioid overdose. "We have had only one death so far this year, but that's still one death too many," Mr. Schneiderman said.

Those who wish to say a few words about a family member can be added to the list of speakers by emailing cconway@southamptontownny.gov.
