Third House Montauk Seeking Docents

Third House in Montauk was built in 1806, with a 1879 addition, as a cattle-keeper's residence. East Hampton Star Archive

Third House Nature Center is seeking volunteers to serve as weekend docents at Third House in Montauk County Park this summer. The original cottage, built in 1747, housed the people who tended livestock driven east each spring to fatten on the moors of Montauk. Docents welcome visitors and share knowledge about the colorful history of the second-oldest surviving structure in Montauk.
