Fund-Raising Effort Follows Death of East Hampton Student

Thu, 08/01/2019 - 13:56

The family of Erika Bueno, an East Hampton High School student who died Monday, is raising money to pay for her funeral, and the school has provided counselors for peers who are affected by her death.

Erika, 16, attended a local carnival on Friday with family and friends. She experienced what was called a medical event there and did not regain consciousness, according to a GoFundMe page set up in her name.

"Now we are trying to give our last goodbyes with a beautiful funeral service," the fund-raising page reads. "Any donations would help her family out so much to make this funeral service very special for her."

The website is gofundme.com/f/rip-erika-bueno.

Services for Erika include visiting hours on Friday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Yardley and Pino Funeral Home at 94 Pantigo Road in East Hampton. A funeral Mass will be said on Saturday at 11 a.m. at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, also in East Hampton.

An email from the high school's administration said grief counselors are available at the school this week from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. "Please do not hesitate to reach out if your child needs assistance," Adam Fine, the principal, said in the email. "Please keep her and her family in your thoughts and prayers."
