    The East Hampton Democratic Committee awarded its Cathy Lester memorial scholarship to Myra O’Neal at the seniors award ceremony at East Hampton High School last Thursday. Myra won the $750 scholarship based on an outstanding essay and will be attending the University of Connecticut in the fall. The award was presented by Zach Cohen, the Democratic candidate for town supervisor.

Southampton Hospital
    An East Hampton High School senior and a member of Pierson High School’s class of 2011 were recipients of two scholarships from Southampton Hospital’s board of directors.
    The one-year scholarships ranging from $1,500 to $2,500 are given to graduating seniors who are children of hospital employees.
    Hannah Riley, a student at East Hampton High School, whose father, Jim Riley, is a physical therapist in rehabilitation services, won the Robert Holmes scholarship.
    Hannah is a member of the National Honor Society and graduates with a 98.84 average. She has been involved in music programs as well as the varsity tennis and track teams, and is an animal lover who has volunteered many hours to the Animal Rescue Fund of the Hamptons and also volunteers with Maureen’s Haven. She will attend Elon University in North Carolina in the fall.
    Catherine O’Brien, the Pierson senior, won the Mulvihill Family scholarship. Her mother, Deborah O’Brien, is a registered nurse in the emergency department. Catherine is a member of the National Honor Society and a four-year field hockey and basketball player. She also volunteers with the Sag Harbor Ambulance Squad. She will attend the Culinary Institute of America.
