Bill Herzog, who by his own estimate has “retired 10 times,” came out of his latest retirement recently to coach winter boys track in the absence of Luis Morales, the former coach and one of Herzog’s former protégés, who is now a physical education instructor and coach at Greenport High School.

Evidently having internalized, at least to some degree, what Jason Lezak, a former Olympian, had said concerning swimming techniques at the Y.M.C.A. East Hampton RECenter’s pool recently, the Y’s youth swim team, the Hurricanes, did very well, its coach, Tom Cohill, said, at a three-day meet this past weekend at Eisenhower Park in Nassau County.
The East Hampton High School dance club was founded in 2002, though this is the first year that its competition team members are to receive varsity letters.

East Hampton High School’s wrestling coach, Steve Tseperkas, entered only nine competitors in Saturday’s Frank (Sprig) Gardner tournament that the high school has played host to since 1975 — a tournament that memorializes “the father of Long Island wrestling.” Five of them placed.
