It's a happy new year, indeed, for people in New York who earn minimum wage. New York State Gov. Kathy Hochul announced on Dec. 27 that the minimum wage for Long Islanders will now be $16.

A new East Hampton Town law going into effect Jan. 1 will require a new certificate of occupancy (C.O.) to be obtained when the ownership of a property changes hands.

It's cold out there for sure, but that won't stop the action on the local hiking trails.

East Hampton Town has put out a reminder for residents and business owners to document and describe any damage they incurred as a result of this week's storms.

Visiting hours for Andrew Strong, formerly of East Hampton, will be held at the Yardley and Pino Funeral Home in Sag Harbor on Thursday from 1 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. A celebration of his life will take place Friday at 10 a.m. at the St. Luke's Episcopal Church parish hall in East Hampton.

Silas Jones and Reilly Rose, singer-songwriters who recently graduated from East Hampton High School and Sag Harbor's Pierson High School, respectively, will perform an evening of music Friday at 7 p.m. at LTV Studios in Wainscott.

A gingerbread house contest sponsored by Project Most will wrap up with a free party and judging on Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Most Holy Trinity school building on Meadow Way. 

The East Hampton Presbyterian Church’s “Wonderful Christmastime” holiday handbell concert is on Friday, and on Saturday at St. Luke's there's a performance of the “Christmas Oratorio” by Camille Saint-Saens and a singalong with a full choir.

With the winter holiday season in full swing, efforts are afoot in Bridgehampton to help those in need.

The East Hampton Historical Farm Museum at the corner of North Main and Cedar Streets has invited Santa for a visit and photo opportunities on Thursday evening.

LTV Studios in Wainscott and the Jewish Center of the Hamptons will host "A Concert for Israel" to support humanitarian relief in that country on Wednesday at LTV with performances by Mick Hargreaves, Jeffrey Levitt, Peter Martin Weiss, and Lauren Lebowitz.
