Book Markers for Aug. 15, 2024

Words for the Soul
Dianne Moritz of Hampton Bays, a contributor of "Guestwords" to this paper for decades, most recently, and helpfully, on "My Life With Panic Disorder," now has an essay called "The Late Bloomer" appearing elsewhere — in "Just Say Yes," a book in the "Chicken Soup for the Soul" series. This one, subtitled "101 Stories About Stepping Outside Your Comfort Zone," came out last month.

A "Scape Ghost" Appearance
Nanci Lagarenne, East Hamptoner, Star letter writer, former karaoke queen, and novelist, will be showing off her new book, "Scape Ghost," on Wednesday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Capri hotel on County Road 39 in Southampton. "My latest novel," she has said, "is about the Alcatraz escape in 1962 and ghosts of the music and art and environmental worlds."

She'll be among about a half-dozen authors on hand at a Bedside Reading get-together, if you recall those folks who stock high-end inns with mystery novels and such. Attendance is free, but R.S.V.P.s have been requested at BedsideReading.com/Capri.
