Sal Lifrieri knows a thing or two about online safety. A retired New York City police detective who was a member of its hostage negotiation team, and the former security and intelligence director for the city's Office of Emergency Management, he will share his knowledge on Wednesday at 6 p.m. in the library at East Hampton High School.
In his talk, "Protecting Children From Online Threats," Mr. Lifrieri will cover topics such as online bullying, stalking, and harassment; the particulars of popular social media sites; the liabilities of sexting; removing information from the internet, and safety and defense strategies parents can use to protect their kids.
Online safety is "an ongoing topic among our parents, students, and teachers," Sara Smith, the school's principal, said in announcing the forum. "We really can't talk about it enough."
All district parents and community members have been invited, as have students, though Ms. Smith suggested that parents use caution with younger children, as "some of the topics might not be appropriate for little ones."
Spanish-language translation will be available.
