A highlight of Halloween on the South Fork is the annual Bridgehampton Lions Club pumpkin-carving contest, which is set for Monday evening at the Bridgehampton Community House on Main Street.

Starting at 5, contestants can show off their carved creations in consideration for cash prizes and a year's worth of bragging rights. Categories include Classic Jack, Mr. Pumpkin Head, Fright Night, Haunted Habitat, and Vincent van Glow, as well as new themes such as Terrified Pets, How Does Your Garden Grow, and Elon Muskin.

A first-place finisher wins $60, second place wins $30. An overall Master Blade Freestyle prize of $400, with a trophy, will be given out, as will awards for youth in the Under 13 Freestyle category.

In addition to the contest, which is in its 26th year, there will be a puppet show by Goat on a Boat and cider and doughnuts provided by the Milk Pail.

Note that there's no actual carving taking place at the competition, so the work should be done at home beforehand. Other contest rules can be found at bridgehamptonlions.org.
