East Hampton

Adriano Barnes told police he was driving on Accabonac Road on July 22 at about 9:15 p.m. when he decided to get out of his car and hit a few golf balls on the East Hampton Golf Course. While doing so, a man asked him to leave, which led to a physical altercation with another employee. Mr. Barnes said he was struck in the face and his iPhone was damaged. Police said he was uncooperative when an officer tried to photograph his face. He did not pursue charges.

A small wooden bench with a lighthouse painted on it was taken from the front porch of a house on Pond Lane sometime between June 27 and July 7, when Kyle Brengel filed a report. He said the bench was made by his wife’s father many years ago and was worth about $200.

East Hampton Village

A 41-year-old East Hampton woman said she had been cleaning a man’s house on the Circle for over a year and the owner still owed her $1,480. Police advised her, when she filed a report on Aug. 13, that it was a civil matter and she would need to go to Small Claims Court.

A 22-year-old also went to police, on Aug. 15, about an employer on Newtown Lane not paying him agreed upon wages. He also was advised it was a civil matter.

Two men in a white Jeep asked a man on Main Street on Aug. 13 if he would be interested in buying a home entertainment system or a drone. When the man said he was not interested, the Jeep drove off. The incident occurred at about 5:30 p.m.

The driver of a 2007 Toyota called police when it got stuck on Egypt Beach on Sunday evening at about 11:50 p.m. The man said he drives for an app-based taxi company and the app had guided him onto the access to pick up a fare when it got stuck in the sand.

Montauk

Kristina Marrero of Hialeah, Fla., said that while she was driving in front of the Shagwong Tavern on Main Street on Aug. 13 at about 2 a.m., a man standing in the median threw a cellphone at her car. She said it left scuffmarks on the driver’s-side back door but did not want to pursue charges.

A sign that read “Chabad Montauk” went missing from Isaac Baumgarten’s property on North Graves End Avenue between Aug. 2 and 8. He said it was worth about $225.

Springs

A man became “violent and uncontrollable” and broke a window and cut his wrist on the glass at a Glenway home on Friday at about 2:40 a.m. The homeowner declined to press charges, but wanted the man to leave and seek medical attention. He was taken to Southampton Hospital.

Emergency Dispatch Cost Analysis Debated

With two months to go until the East Hampton Town Police Department takes over the lion’s share of emergency dispatching responsibilities from East Hampton Village, questions linger about the cost of the transition and how the town department will handle the new workload.
