East Hampton Town police charged a 62-year-old man with heroin possession after picking him up on arrest warrants on Feb. 25.

Francis J. Barone of Montauk was the passenger in a 2016 Jeep that was stopped after the driver failed to signal right on Edgemere Street in Montauk  at about 4:25 p.m. that afternoon. Police found Mr. Barone had two active bench warrants, one out of East Hampton Town Justice Court, signed by Justice Steven Tekulsky in September 2018, and one out of Southampton Village, also from September.

While searching his wallet at police headquarters, where he was taken on the warrants, police allegedly found a wax envelope containing a brown powder later identified as heroin. He was held overnight for arraignment on the charge of possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree, a misdemeanor. Justice Lisa R. Rana released him on his own recognizance, and he was turned over to Southampton Village police to answer the other warrant.

A 48-year-old Sag Harbor man was arrested the next day on a drug possession charge in East Hampton. Police said that they found a cellophane bag with a white powdery and rock-like substance in Erik P. Sallinger’s wallet during a traffic stop on Accabonac Road at about 1:10 p.m. The substance later tested positive for cocaine.

He was charged with possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree and released on his own recognizance with an order to appear in court on March 20.

Juan Gabriel Carrion-Ochoa, 30, of Montauk was arrested on a misdemeanor charge after police discovered a forged inspection certificate on his 2002 Toyota Highlander. He had been driving east on Montauk Highway, near the Plaza, in Montauk on Saturday when he was stopped by an officer who noticed his inspection sticker was for a 2006 BMW. He was charged with displaying a forged certificate without inspection and released after posting $100 station house bail. He is to appear in court on March 27.
