Two Are Convicted of D.W.I.

In East Hampton Town Justice Court, two drunken-driving cases, one of them dating back to December of 2019, were recently resolved.

The 2019 case was resolved on Feb. 1 with a guilty plea by Jason Glasstein, 41, formerly of East Hampton and now of New Port Richey, Fla., to a misdemeanor charge of driving while intoxicated. He was originally arrested on Dec. 1, 2019, following a confrontation on Lincoln Avenue in Springs that also resulted in charges of leaving the scene of an accident and second-degree harassment, both violations, and reckless endangerment, a misdemeanor.

Justice Steven Tekulsky revoked Mr. Glasstein’s license for six months; court records indicate that the paperwork has been forwarded to the Florida Department of Motor Vehicles. Justice Tekulsky fined him $1,400 in all, which Mr. Glasstein has 90 days to pay, and sentenced him to probation for two years, during which Mr. Glasstein will be required to have an ignition interlock device in his vehicle. The other charges were dismissed.

Before Justice Lisa R. Rana on Feb. 8, Edwin X. Llapapintado of Riverhead, 29, pleaded guilty to a single misdemeanor charge of D.W.I. stemming from an Aug. 8 incident on Three Mile Harbor-Hog Creek Road in Springs. Police said they found him asleep in his car holding a half-empty bottle of Corona with his foot on the brake and the engine running.

Justice Rana sentenced him to a 90-day license suspension and $760 in fines and fees. Mr. Llapapintado also pleaded guilty to unlicensed driving, but two additional violations, aggravated unlicensed driving and consumption of alcohol in a motor vehicle, were dismissed.

They Know When You've Been Bad or Good

East Hampton Village is now home to 14 Flock license plate reader surveillance cameras, which amounts to one for every 108 full-time residents, if you go by the 2020 census data. They're heralded by local police for aiding in enforcement and investigations, but they use a technology that has proven controversial nationally with those concerned about civil liberties.
