A Felony and a Misdemeanor

Thu, 09/26/2024 - 13:26

After allegedly throwing a 60-inch Samsung television onto the floor of his living room, an East Hampton man was arrested at his house on Boatheaders Lane last Thursday night on a charge of third-degree criminal mischief, a class-E felony.

Television repairs will cost around $600, according to police.

During the incident, police said the man, Edras Gomeztellez, 39, punched another person in the chest and back. As a result, Mr. Gomeztellez is also charged with second-degree harassment, a violation.

When police arrived, they said, Mr. Gomeztellez resisted arrest by “refusing” to be handcuffed, tensing his body, clenching his fists, and pulling away from the officer. For this, he is being charged with a misdemeanor count of resisting arrest.

At an arraignment the next day, East Hampton Town Justice Steven Tekulsky released Mr. Gomeztellez without bail, per New York State bail reform laws, with a virtual court follow-up set for Oct. 17.
