Suffolk County's number of new confirmed Covid-19 cases went up again on Wednesday to 844, contributing to a new total of 29,588, and an end to a three-day decline in new cases.
County Executive Steve Bellone acknowledged in Wednesday's press briefing that this was an increase from the 587 cases reported on Tuesday, which had been the lowest number of positive daily test results achieved since March 26.
Over the past few weeks, he said the county had been averaging more than 1,000 new cases per day. "Those numbers have come down. They've come up a little bit today, but not as high as we've seen in the past."
Hospitalizations were down 57. He said the new total of 1,377 is the first time in weeks that number had been below 1,400. He also reported 141 discharges. The county did not have new information from the state on the number of deaths from the virus in the previous 24 hours.
Mr. Bellone also mentioned that there is a new survey on the county's website for residents and businesses to share whether their financial institutions are honoring the relief on loans for economic hardship called for by the state and federal governments. Residents can also call 311 to report institutions that are not cooperating. The county will report them to the proper agencies.
