Boys Lose District Little League Final

Tue, 07/16/2019 - 16:43

East Hampton’s traveling 11-and-12-year-old Little League all-star baseball team, which had won the District 36 tournament as a 9-10 entry in 2017, lost 5-0 to Longwood at the North Shore Little League field on July 10, finishing the season at 6-1.

As he had two years ago, Tyler Hansen started on the mound for East Hampton and went all the way. It was 1-0 after four innings, but Longwood broke it open with several extra-base blows in the bottom of the fifth.

“We had hits and runners in scoring position, but just couldn’t get them in,” said Nicole Dickinson, who coaches the team, with Andrew Rodriguez as her assistant. “We had a great season — they’re a great group of boys.”

And they’ll keep playing, in a summer league in Brookhaven with Henry Meyer, East Hampton High’s varsity assistant, as their head coach. Dickinson said that from Aug. 10 through 16 the team is to visit Cooperstown, N.Y., where it will tour Major League Baseball’s Hall of Fame and play on the Abner Doubleday field.
