Blaze Makoid Architecture of Bridgehampton took home two awards at the American Institute of Architects Long Island Chapter’s annual Archi Awards last Thursday — one for a house in East Hampton and another for a Truckee, Calif., design.

The East Hampton house, which the firm calls Old Orchard, began as a 10,000-square-foot modern spec house before new owners brought Blaze Makoid Architecture on board. The firm completely redid the house.

The California house, on a lot within a 2,200-acre ski and golf club called Martis Camp, is a 6,000-square-foot structure on steeply sloping, wooded terrain. “The placement and footprint of the house preserve the natural site features through minimal grading and tree removal,” the firm said. “Black-stained cedar siding allows for the house to blend with the landscape during the summer and fall, and pose as a dramatic counterpoint to the snow cover through the winter months.”
