Judy Carmichael, Grammy Award-nominated musician, author, and radio host, will celebrate her new book, "Great Inspirations: 22 Years of 'Jazz Inspired' on NPR" on Sunday at 4 p.m. at the American Hotel in Sag Harbor.
The gathering will include champagne and hors d'oeuvres, and Ms. Carmichael, a pianist and vocalist who lives in Sag Harbor, will play a few songs on the American Hotel's Steinway piano.
"Great Inspirations" features a selection of her interviews with artists of various disciplines using jazz as an entry point into a discussion on inspiration and creativity. Featured interviewees include the actors F. Murray Abraham, Chevy Chase, Glenn Close, and Blythe Danner, the musicians Jon Batiste, Tony Bennett, Jimmy Buffett, Billy Joel, and Gil Goldstein, the astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson, the chef and author Paul Prudhomme, and the magician Penn Jillette.
"Back in the '90s I started thinking seriously about starting my own radio series," Ms. Carmichael writes in the book's introduction, "to celebrate great artists, well-known or not, in contrast to so many media outlets that focus exclusively on famous people with a product to sell. My program would be about the artists, their work, their creative process, and their inspirations, not about a specific project. I would choose professionally creative people of all ages who had a broad view of their art and the world, people whose stories were illustrative and inspirational."
"Jazz Inspired" airs locally on WLIW 88.3 FM on Sundays at 7 p.m.
Ms. Carmichael previously published a memoir, "Swinger! A Jazz Girl's Adventures From Hollywood to Harlem," and an instructional book, "You Can Play Stride Piano." She has also released nine albums, including "Can You Love Once More?" with Harry Allen, ". . . And Basie Called Her Stride," and "I Love Being Here With You."

Ms. Carmichael will perform at Bay Street Theater in Sag Harbor on Dec. 17.
