Classical Piano
Shelter Island Friends of Music will host a free concert by Llewellyn Sánchez-Werner, a prize-winning pianist, on Saturday at 6 p.m. at the island’s Presbyterian Church. The program will feature works by Debussy, J.S. Bach, Frederic Rzewski, and Schumann. A reception with the artist will follow the performance.
A Gilmore Young Artist and winner of first prize at the Concert Artists Guild International Competition, Sánchez-Werner has performed at Lincoln Center, the White House, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Kennedy Center, and the Smithsonian American Art Museum. His international appearances include the Louvre in Paris, Smetana Hall in Prague, and the Royal Concertgebouw in the Netherlands.
‘Viennese Voices’
The Hamptons Festival of Music will continue its fifth-anniversary season with “Viennese Voices,” an intimate chamber concert, next Thursday at 6 p.m. in Hoie Hall at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, East Hampton. The performers are Brennan Sweet, violin; Joseph Staten, cello, and Logan Souther, piano.
While the festival’s MainStage season in September will feature symphonies by Haydn, Schubert, and Beethoven, “Viennese Voices” will provide a closer look at the chamber tradition that shaped those symphonies. The program includes Haydn’s Piano Trio No. 39 in G Major “Gypsy”; Schubert’s Notturno Op. 148, and Beethoven’s Piano Trio Op. 70 No. 1 “Ghost.”
Bringing this repertoire to life in an intimate setting allows both the audience and young listeners to experience the “energy, nuance, and dialogue that shaped classical Vienna,” notes the festival. Tickets are $75.
Streisand Tribute
“The Main Event,” a tribute to Barbra Streisand starring Jill Gioia, will come to Sag Harbor’s Bay Street Theater on Saturday at 8 p.m. A veteran vocalist, Gioia sang for five years with the Trans-Siberian Orchestra, and was a top-10 singer on the CBS series “Rockstar Supernova” along with Tommy Lee of Motley Crue and Gilby Clarke of Guns N’ Roses.
Backed by a full band, Gioia will channel Streisand’s greatest hits, including “The Way We Were,” “Evergreen,” “Don’t Rain on My Parade,” “Woman in Love,” and many more.
Tickets are $44 to $56.
