The Ladies Village Improvement Society in East Hampton plans to open its shops to the public in a limited capacity next week, according to an email from the organization’s board of directors.
At its headquarters at 95 Main Street, air purifiers have been installed in the annex, the barn, and the processing areas of the books, housewares, linens, and men’s and women’s clothing departments.
The organization has procured an “electrostatic backpack sprayer” that uses hospital-grade disinfectant tablets to provide touchless sanitization. “It is not ordinarily available to small businesses, so we are fortunate to have been able to purchase one,” the board members said.
Touch-free hand-sanitizing stations and trash receptacles will be placed at the main entrance to the shops, and large plexiglass partitions have been installed at the main desk in the women's clothing department and at the desks in the books and furniture sections. Similar partitions will be installed in the annex.
Customers will be required to wear face coverings and practice social distancing. “We have removed several racks of merchandise to allow more room for social distancing,” the L.V.I.S. said, and the maximum number of people allowed in will be 15 for the sales floor, 5 for the furniture barn, and 3 for the annex. “For now, dressing rooms will be closed . . . [and] windows will be opened wherever possible to provide ventilation.”
