LTV Studios, C.C.O.M. Seek Scholarship Candidates

Two local community organizations, LTV Studios and Concerned Citizens of Montauk, have announced that they are once again offering college scholarships to deserving high school seniors.

Concerned Citizens of Montauk is accepting applications for the Peter Lowenstein Memorial Scholarship from students who are Montauk residents, attending either East Hampton High School or another local school, and graduating in June. The award, for $1,000, honors the memory of Mr. Lowenstein, a former C.C.O.M. board member and volunteer for many years, “by investing in Montauk’s next generation of environmentalists.”

Students qualify if they can demonstrate “a commitment to improving the environment” through volunteer work and have plans to study science or environmental studies in college or trade school. The deadline to apply is March 11, and information can be found at preservemontauk.org.

Students planning to major in film, television, media, broadcasting, or radio are eligible for the LTV Community Scholarship, through which LTV, East Hampton’s public access television station, will honor two students “with a passion for community media, lifelong learning, and free speech.” Students must live in East Hampton Town or Southampton Town, be graduating from high school or receiving a G.E.D. by June, and must “demonstrate school/community involvement and strong academic achievement.”

In addition to a personal essay and recommendation letters, candidates should provide samples of audio or video work. The website for applications is ltveh.org/ltvcommunityscholarship, and the deadline is May 15. Two $500 awards will be granted.
