Bonac Bowlers, which includes five bowlers from the Springs School, took part in a Special Olympics bowling event, where they showed off their skills and team spirit.
They bowled in Riverhead on March 1 and had a thrilling day of competition and sportsmanship. There were 40 bowlers from across Long Island participating that day.
The group, also known as the Fantastic Five — Justin, Mathew, Alan, Randy, and Silas — had a successful day. Justin and Mathew both earned gold in their divisions, and Alan received gold in the mixed competition bowling. In the 9-year-old boys division, Randy and Silas competed against each other in a highly energetic match, with Randy earning gold and Silas earning silver.
“The kids felt excited to bowl,” their teacher, Whitney Reidlinger, said when asked about how the event made her students feel. She said that the purpose of the event is to give her students an experience to participate in a Long Island regional competition for the Special Olympics. “They were happy and excited because they all won medals.”
Ms. Whitney was especially grateful to all who volunteered and cheered on the Fantastic Five. “Their energy and encouragement made this event even more special.”
