Cluckman's Brings Chicken and Smash Burgers to Sag Harbor

Gluckmans Open Cluckman’s

It’s been a couple of years since Sag Harbor had a pretty affordable, family-friendly spot to get a burger and fries, hot dog, ice cream, or chicken sandwich. The veteran restaurateur Michael Gluckman has come up with an answer to that problem: Cluckman’s, a new eatery where the most expensive thing on the menu is $17.

“I knew the village needed something” like this, Mr. Gluckman said this week, “because LT Burger and Bay Burger had shut down. I was lucky enough to find this spot. . . . Rich or poor, you get tired of spending $400 every time you want to get dinner.”

Taking cues from chains like Shake Shack, Five Guys, and Raising Cane’s, Cluckman’s has a fun cafeteria vibe as it serves up smash burgers made from a Cromer’s Market chopped beef blend, fries and onion rings made from scratch, and antibiotic-free chicken.

Burgers at Cluckman’s (a play on the owners’ last name, thought up by their 16-year-old son’s 14-year-old friend) range from $9 to $17. The chicken sandwiches cost $14. There’s a kids’ menu with options from $10 to $14. Sides of fries start at $5 and ice cream shakes cost $9. There are even some options for non-meat eaters, including a portobello mushroom burger, salads, and flash-fried broccoli.

Hours are noon to 9 p.m., seven days a week. It’s Mr. Gluckman’s 14th restaurant venture, and judging by the crowds just a couple of weeks into opening, it’s going to be popular. “This one I plan to keep around,” he said. “I’m proud to have my name on this. I’m happy to serve all these nice families and workers that make up the community here.”
