Suffolk County Legislator Bridget Fleming has won endorsements from several elected officials and a union since announcing her bid for the Democratic nomination to challenge Representative Lee Zeldin in New York’s First Congressional District.

East Hampton Town Supervisor Peter Van Scoyoc and Shelter Island Town Supervisor Gerard Siller have endorsed the campaign, Ms. Fleming announced last week. “Bridget Fleming has long been a staunch advocate for the East End,” Mr. Van Scoyoc said in a statement issued by Ms. Fleming’s campaign. “She has proven her ability to successfully represent us and deliver on important issues. I’m proud to endorse Bridget’s candidacy because she understands the many challenges we face, and will be the champion we need in Congress. I’m excited to join her across East Hampton as she campaigns to be our congresswoman.”

Also endorsing her campaign were the County Legislature’s presiding officer, Rob Calarco, its former presiding officer, DuWayne Gregory, and Legislators Al Krupski, Tom Donnelly, William Spencer, and Sam Gonzalez.

Ms. Fleming also picked up the endorsement of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 25, which represents 2,000 electricians on Long Island. “IBEW Local 25 came out very early for me, almost as soon as I announced,” Ms. Fleming told a gathering of Democratic voters in Springs on Friday, which is reported on separately this week. “They know an ally, and a relationship that they want to support, when they see one.”

Ms. Fleming said labor unions recognize her work in the Legislature on renewable energy, including offshore wind and solar power. “It’s very, very important that the jobs that are created there are good jobs that are well paying, that have decent working conditions that offer people a secure retirement and health care,” she said.
