Thu, 10/12/2023 - 10:27
East Hampton Town candidates for supervisor and councilperson include, on top, Kathee Burke-Gonzalez, David Lys, and Gretta Leon, and, on bottom, Michael Wootton, Tom Flight, and Scott Smith.

This month will see candidates debates for East Hampton Town and Southampton Town supervisor and board, and for the Suffolk County Legislature’s Second District, hosted by the League of Women Voters of the Hamptons, Shelter Island, and the North Fork.

The first is on Monday at 7 p.m., when SEA-TV will broadcast a debate over Zoom between candidates for Suffolk’s Second District. Ann Welker of the Southampton Town Trustees is the Democratic and Working Families Party candidate. Manny Vilar, a Springs resident who is chairman of the East Hampton Town Republican Committee, is running on the Republican and Conservative Party lines. Judi Roth of the league will moderate.

Candidates for East Hampton supervisor and town board will debate via Zoom on Wednesday, also at 7 p.m. The league’s Susan Wilson will be the moderator and LTV will broadcast it. Up first will be Councilwoman Kathee Burke-Gonzalez, the Democratic and Working Families Party candidate for supervisor, and Gretta Leon, the Republican and Conservative Party candidate.

That debate will be immediately followed by one among the four candidates running for two seats on the town board. Councilman David Lys and his running mate, Tom Flight, both on the Democratic and Working Families lines, will discuss the issues with Scott Smith and Michael Wootton, both on the Republican and Conservative Party lines.

These will subsequently be available on demand on LTV and its YouTube channel.

SEA-TV will host Zoom debates on Oct. 23 between candidates for Southampton’s supervisor and town board starting at 7 p.m. For supervisor, it’s Westhampton Beach Mayor Maria Moore on the Democratic and Conservative Party lines, and Councilwoman Cynthia McNamara, a Republican.

The four seeking two seats on the town board are Councilman Richard Martel on the Republican and Conservative Party lines; William Parash, a Republican candidate and town trustee; Michael Iasilli of the Democratic and Working Families Parties, and Bill Pell, a town trustee on the Democratic and Conservative Party lines.

The league’s Estelle Gellman will moderate, and the debate will be broadcast live on SEA-TV’s YouTube channel and subsequently available on demand.

Candidates at the Zoom debates will make timed opening and closing statements and answer questions submitted at least two days in advance to [email protected].

Early voting happens from Oct. 28 through Nov. 5. Election Day is Nov. 7.
