League’s Annual Meeting Offers Intro to Historical Society

Steve Long, executive director of the East Hampton Historical Society, will be the guest speaker at the annual meeting of the League of Women Voters of the Hamptons, Shelter Island, and the North Fork on Sunday.

Mr. Long will offer a look behind the scenes at the historical society, touching on the many historic buildings it owns and its recent launch of an arts and culture app used by over 350 other museums around the world. Afterward, those who attend the meeting have been invited to tour the Dominy Shops Museum on North Main Street, which was opened last year.

The museum, owned by the village and overseen by the historical society, includes the house and workshop of a family of 18th and 19th-century master craftsmen renowned for their furniture and clocks, as well as such significant structures as the Hook Mill.

The meeting will take place at the East Hampton Library at 1 p.m., beginning with refreshments, followed at 1:30 by the business portion, during which the league will adopt its 2024-25 budget, elect officers and directors, adopt its local program, and present its $2,000 Betty Desch Student Leadership Award scholarship and its Carrie Chapman Catt Award, which recognizes a league member for longstanding distinguished service.

The meeting is open to the public, as is the tour of the Dominy museum, at 73 North Main Street. Reservations are requested at 631-324-4637.
