Beach Pass Sticker Shock for Some in Sag Harbor

Thu, 02/05/2026 - 11:49
Residents on the East Hampton Town side of Sag Harbor Village could see a tenfold increase in the cost of Southampton Town beach permits that allow parking at beaches like Sagg Main, above.

Some Sag Harbor residents could find themselves having to purchase nonresident beach parking passes if a proposed amendment to the Southampton Town code passes. The passes would cost $500.

Historically, residents of Sag Harbor Village have been able to buy resident parking passes for beaches in Southampton for a significantly lower price since parts of Sag Harbor are located within Southampton Town and others in East Hampton.

A residential parking pass now costs $50 but those living on the East Hampton side of the village could see that cost spike. The new fee would not apply to parking at Long Beach, but would apply to Sagg Main, the closest lifeguard-protected ocean beach, and town beaches such as Scott Cameron.

It should be noted that Sag Harbor does grant village resident parking passes to those living within the Sag Harbor ZIP code who are technically residents of Southampton.

Those affected by the proposal can submit comments to the Southampton Town Board on the proposed change until Monday by emailing the town clerk at [email protected].
