Parks police are investigating a death in Montauk's Camp Hero State Park, believed to be a suicide, on the day before Christmas.

The body of a man said to be from the Bronx was found in his car Tuesday morning, parked near the bluffs in a lot at the end of Coast Artillery Road.

East Hampton Town Police Sgt. Greg Martin confirmed the death, but referred questions to the parks police. A 911 call had been received from the area at 6:21 a.m., but it was broken off, and dispatchers could not decipher anything that may have been said. That information was relayed to town police.

An officer arrived to find a man dead in his car. New York State Parks police had an officer on duty nearby, who arrived a short time later and took over what he only described as “a death investigation, “ Sergeant Martin said. A parks police public information officer in Albany could not be reached on Christmas Eve.

A Suffolk County medical examiner was called, and responded by way of a county police helicopter.
