Update, Saturday, Nov. 15, 8:30 a.m.: A female pedestrian was seriously injured in a hit-and-run accident on Main Street in Amagansett Friday afternoon. The subsequent investigation closed the road for hours.

At around 2:20 p.m., Alexandra Liveris, 39, of Amagansett had just entered the crosswalk when she was struck by Brianna Becci, 18, of West Babylon, who was heading east in a 2016 Chevrolet S.U.V., police said.

Ms. Liveris was treated by the Amagansett Fire Department and was transported by ambulance to Stony Brook Southampton Hospital, where she is now in stable condition.

Police said they found Ms. Becci shortly afterward. She has been charged with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in serious injury and acting in a manner injurious to a child under 17 (because she had a juvenile passenger), along with two minor traffic violations. She was released on an appearance ticket and is due to return to East Hampton Town Justice Court on Nov. 26.

The East Hampton Town police detectives are continuing to investigate. Anyone with information should call the East Hampton Town Police Department at 631-537-7575.

They Know When You've Been Bad or Good

East Hampton Village is now home to 14 Flock license plate reader surveillance cameras, which amounts to one for every 108 full-time residents, if you go by the 2020 census data. They're heralded by local police for aiding in enforcement and investigations, but they use a technology that has proven controversial nationally with those concerned about civil liberties.
