The East Hampton girls track team delivered a series of strong performances at the North Babylon Invitational on Saturday.
C.J. Echavarria led the way in the 100-meter high hurdles, placing fourth in 17.23, while Sophia Figueroa took ninth in 17.67.
Danett Gonzalez-Alcala finished sixth in the freshman-sophomore 1,500 meters with a personal-best 5:16.04. In the open 1,500, Laura Martinez placed eighth with a personal-best 5:02.52. Bennett Greene added yet another season best, 8:32.74, in the 1,500-meter racewalk to take ninth.
The team saw depth in the 400-meter intermediate hurdles, with Sara O’Brien finishing second in a season-best 68.75. Figueroa placed fifth in 73.88, and Maggie Greenwald took ninth with a season-best 75.04.
Josie Mott set a personal record of 2:32.79 in the 800 meters.
In the sprints, Sabina Piecyk recorded a personal-best 29.36 in the 200 meters, while Angie Castillo posted a season-best 30.42. Lai’la Sanders ran a personal-best 65.26 in the 400 meters, and Madison Williams added a personal-best 85.70.
In the field events, Vicky Chen placed second in the pole vault, at 8-foot-6, followed by Castillo in fourth, at 7-foot-6, and Vanessa Rizzo in eighth with a personal best of 6-foot-6. Sierra Stumpf cleared 4 feet, 7 inches to take fifth in the high jump.
Sydney Powers turned in a strong day, recording a season-best 15 feet, 4.5 inches in the long jump and a personal-best 32 feet, 3.75 inches in the triple jump.
Leah McCarron placed third in the discus with a personal-best throw of 100 feet, 2 inches and added a sixth-place finish in the shot-put at 30 feet, 2.25 inches. Madison Giraldo had a P.R. in the discus at 46 feet, 6.75 inches.
“Many great performances at this meet, and we couldn’t be prouder of the work the girls are doing,” said Yani Cuesta, the head coach.
