On Sunday at about 9:40 a.m., an 87-year-old man was taken to the hospital after a two-car accident by St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in East Hampton Village.

Village police said Peter J. van Hattum, driving a 2017 Lexus, had tried to cross James Lane from the Mill Road intersection and go into the driveway at St. Luke’s. He told police he did not see Jonathan Canno’s 2020 BMW heading toward him on James Lane.

Mr. van Hattum, who lives in East Hampton, was taken to Stony Brook Southampton Hospital with chest pain. Mr. Canno, 71, of East Hampton was not hurt. No tickets were issued.
