July 14, 1936 - Sept. 28, 2019

Andrew Andry, a children’s book author, died of heart failure on Sept. 28 at home in East Hampton. He was 83.

Born on July 14, 1936, in Woonsocket, R.I., to the former Mary Talabac and Christy Andry, Mr. Andry graduated from high school there, and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the Rhode Island School of Design.

After college, he joined the Army Reserve, and later moved to New York City, where he worked as a graphic designer. He eventually became a partner in the advertising and graphic design firm Mauro and Andry Associates.

He was the co-author of “How Babies Are Made,” an illustrated book that teaches children about the reproductive systems in flowers, chickens, dogs, and humans. It was published in 1968.

Two years later, his second children’s book, “Hi, New Baby,” was released.

Mr. Andry moved to East Hampton in 1981, and married Linda O’Leary in 1985. She died some time ago.

A sister, Andronica Kressu of Sebastian, Fla., and eight nieces and nephews survive. Three other siblings died before him.

The family has suggested memorial donations to East End Hospice, P.O. Box 1048, Westhampton Beach 11978.
