This year marks Michael Havens’s second bid for a trustee seat. The lifelong resident of the town is among a long line of baymen in his family, and he believes that experience will serve him well if elected.
Mr. Havens has said he has “firsthand knowledge of how important it is to ensure the harbors are properly dredged and maintained,” and understands the role of the fishing and shellfishing industry in the local economy and the community’s character and history.
He pointed to his relationships with state and local agencies that concern themselves with local waterways and fishing. “I have to know these things. I make my living at it,” he said.
He supports dredging to replenish and revamp eroded shorelines and said he believes “an understanding of the unique capabilities of the trustees is possible without sacrificing the public’s patented lands and waters.”
