While Carolyn B. Meyer was parked at the recycling center on Saturday, her handbag was stolen out of her 2019 Audi A3 convertible. The white and brown designer bag was on the passenger-side floor, and the convertible top was down. Ms. Meyer did not realize the bag was gone until she got home. Her Ferragamo wallet, containing $150 cash, various credit cards, and her driver’s license, was in the bag, which was valued at about $150.
East Hampton Village
A baby’s winter hat was stolen from the Loro Piana shop on Main Street at about 3:15 p.m. on Oct. 19. A woman, said to be about 65 years old, picked the pink cashmere hat off a shelf, walked around with it for a few minutes, distracted the manager, and then left without paying for it. It retails for $675, according to the report, which was filed on Oct. 21.
An officer on patrol was flagged down at Two Mile Hollow Beach on Oct. 21 about an injured bird. The bird, a northern gannet, appeared to have an injured wing. Wildlife rescuers were notified.
Employees at White’s Apothecary called police on Oct. 23 after confronting a woman who put a cosmetics case in her tote bag before purchasing it. She denied taking it at first, but then handed over the $200 bag and left the store. Police reviewed surveillance footage, which showed the woman picking up several other items, but it was unclear whether any other merchandise was taken.
Damage was reported in a West End Road boathouse on Oct. 23. According to a report, someone using a pair of metal shears cut two combination cable/wire locks that were affixed to two kayaks. The shears were left in one of the kayaks. A wooden support brace holding up the kayaks was damaged as well. A paper sign reading “Private Property” was torn up, and a plastic sign warning “Property Under Camera Surveillance” was also damaged.
Montauk
Police were called to an apartment on Big Reed Path twice in two days this month. An officer responded to a harassment complaint on Oct. 13 after the landlord, Michael Del Percio, said an unwanted person was on the property. The next day, Linder Anselmo Loor Brito reported that his Apple iPad and daily journal had gone missing between Sept. 23 and Sept. 27. There were no signs of forced entry.
A 24-foot Werner extension ladder was stolen sometime between Oct. 11 and Oct. 16 from the roof of James Sullivan’s Chevy truck while it was parked at his house on Mulford Avenue. It was valued at about $300.
