Two Ballots in Amagansett: School Board and Primary

Thu, 06/20/2019 - 09:53

On Tuesday, the same day residents head to the polls to vote in the local primary contests, the Amagansett School District will hold a run-off election between two school board members who emerged in a tie in May.

William (Hank) Muchnic and Anna Bernasek were both elected to the board, but the run-off vote will determine who gets a full three-year term and who gets the remainder of the term belonging to a former board member who resigned when he moved out of the district last year. Each candidate received 151 votes last month. Another full term was filled when Kristen V. Peterson, the current school board president, was re-elected with 168 votes.

Voting hours on Tuesday are 2 to 8 p.m. in the gymnasium at the Amagansett School.

Mr. Muchnic, who was first elected in 2016, is on the board of an investment firm and the Muchnic Foundation. Ms. Bernasek, a writer, ran unsuccessfully for the board in 2017 before being appointed to the seat vacated by Patrick Bistrian III last year.
