Juggle This

Keith Leaf, an East Hampton juggler well known to kids and parents for his performances all across the South Fork, will be at the Amagansett Library on Saturday for a juggling workshop at 2:30 p.m. The class is for ages 8 to 10. Advance registration is required.

Things That Go Boom

Next up in Guild Hall’s Wednesday KidFest programs will be an interactive performance by Doktor Kaboom and his Wheel of Science and an erupting volcanoes workshop.

Doktor Kaboom uses his wheel to decide which experiment to demonstrate next for audiences, with choices ranging from homemade hovercrafts to chemical reactions to catapulting bananas across the stage. He’ll be at Guild Hall for a 5 p.m. show that costs $18 for adults and $14 for children, or $16 and $12 for Guild Hall members. Before the show at 4 p.m., kids can join in an experiment of their own as they combine ingredients to make a model volcano explode. The workshop costs $12, $10 for members.

The Fly Dance Company will visit the stage on July 31 at 1 and 5 p.m., with a hip-hop workshop scheduled for 4. These popular programs do sell out, so advance purchase of tickets has been suggested.

Dance Journey

At the Parrish Art Museum in Water Mill, an award-winning dance ensemble from the Edge School of the Arts in Queens will perform classical ballet, jazz, African, tap, and hip-hop selections in a family program on Wednesday at 1:30 p.m.

Young audience members will have a chance to accompany them on instruments from around the world, including shekeres, djembe drums, and tambourines. The program is free with museum admission, but registering ahead of time is a good idea.

Family Fun Day

A family fun day at the Hampton Library in Bridgehampton on Saturday from 1 to 4 p.m. will include games, music, dancing, and a hot dog picnic with shaved ice, all for free.

On Monday, educators from the Cradle of Aviation Museum will have a portable planetarium in Bridgehampton for night sky programs at 4 and 5 p.m. at the Queen of the Most Holy Rosary Catholic Church’s parish hall at 4 and 5 p.m. for kids in sixth grade and up.

A scavenger hunt for that same age group happens on Tuesday from 2 to 4 p.m. Seventh through 12th graders have been invited to tour the Beebe Windmill on Ocean Road next Thursday at 4 p.m. with library staff.

On Friday, July 26, the Imagination Playground, a creative play program for families with younger children, visits the library at 1 p.m.

From Han Solo to Pyrography

For kids looking for a break from the heat this week, the East Hampton Library has four family movies and a whole day of “Star Wars” films for teens on the calendar. “Cinderella” will be shown today at 3 p.m., “Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs” on Saturday at 1, “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory” next Thursday at 3, and the 2016 version of “The Jungle Book” on Friday, July 26, at 2.

Saturday is also Han Solo Day for high school students, and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. the library will show three films from the “Star Wars” franchise featuring the character at different ages: “The Empire Strikes Back,” “The Force Awakens,” and “Solo: A Star Wars Story.” The library has promised movie-style snacks all day.

Also for high school students this week, a young-adult librarian will lead a walk to the Nature Trail, a.k.a. the Duck Pond, on Monday from 3:30 to 5 p.m. On Tuesday at 2, the library will cover the cost of one round of mini golf. Participants will meet at the Clubhouse, which is at East Hampton Indoor Tennis off Daniel’s Hole Road in Wainscott.

An educator from Cornell Cooperative Extension will be at the library on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. to demonstrate ice cream and butter making to kids ages 2 to 5. Drawing inspiration from Japanese fish printing, the library will introduce kids 4 and older to the collagraph printmaking in a workshop tomorrow at 2:30 p.m. Participants will use textured items to make sea creature prints.

Pyrography — the art of decorating wood with burn marks — will be the craft of the day for kids in sixth grade and up next Thursday at 4 p.m.

Advance sign-up has been recommended for all programs, as they often fill up.

Imagination Run Wild

The Imagination Playground will pull in to the John Jermain Memorial Library in Sag Harbor on Tuesday at 11 a.m. for creative free play for kids 2 to 5.

Kids in kindergarten through third grade can listen to stories about fish and sharks and then make some tasty catches with pretzels and gummies on Wednesday at 4 p.m. at John Jermain. Next Thursday, the library plans a shark story and craft time for ages 2 to 5 at 11:30 a.m.

Enter the Art Nanny

The Art Nanny will be at the Montauk Library on Saturday for watercolor painting programs for preschoolers and kids up to fifth grade. At 2 p.m., she’ll lead 2 to 5-year-olds as they make outer space paintings to frame. Older kids will do the same in a more advanced program at 3 p.m.

On Tuesday at 4 p.m., Joyce Raimondo of Imagine That art education will explore sunsets in famous works of art and then work with kids 6 and older as they paint their own sunset artworks.

Next Thursday, Nina Ross, who wrote and illustrated “Montauk Has a Very Hungry Shark,” will read from and sign copies of the book at 4 p.m. A snack will be included.

For Young Marine Engineers

Sue and Al Daniels will help families make real fish-print T-shirts while also teaching them about the many fish in our local waters on Sunday at 10:30 a.m. at the South Fork Natural History Museum in Bridgehampton. There is a $12 materials fee for T-shirts and supplies, and participants have been advised to wear a smock or cover-up.

In a free all-day program on Tuesday, young marine engineers will work with educators from OceansWide to build model remote-controlled underwater vehicles. Participants will learn how these machines help scientists explore the oceans and bays and will try them out in the water off Sag Harbor. The program runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is for kids 9 and older. Transportation will be provided to the beach and back. Participants should take lunch and sunscreen. There is space for only 12 children in the program, so advance registration is essential.

Party in Montauk

In Montauk, Camp SoulGrow continues to head up arts and crafts for kids 7 and older on Wednesdays from 6 to 8 p.m. while Nancy Atlas plays at the Surf Lodge.

Coming up next Thursday, the camp will host a pool party at the Breakers Motel from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Registration at campsoulgrow.org is a must.
