Action Painting
The Mannix Studio of Art will lead family tours and action-painting workshops at the Pollock-Krasner House and Studio in Springs on Thursdays and Fridays through Sept. 6. After learning some background on the Abstract Expressionists Jackson Pollock and Lee Krasner, participants will have a chance to paint a canvas in Pollock’s style.
The workshop is for ages 4 and older. It runs from 10 to 11:30 a.m., with a 9:45 a.m. arrival. The cost is $40 per person, which includes a canvas and painting supplies. Advance registration at [email protected] or 631-329-2811 is required.

CMEE Goes Big
There’s so much happening for kids from toddlerhood to age 9 this summer at the Children’s Museum of the East End in Bridgehampton that they ought to call it CMEE University.
The offerings, too extensive to list in detail here, include Monday through Friday drop-off programs like the Summer Kids Club, a Farm Club at Amber Waves Farm in Amagansett, a multisport camp with Super Soccer Stars, and a theater camp with Broadway Bees to arts and crafts, cooking, gardening, dance, and chess programs that meet once a week. With almost all of them, there’s a chance to sign up for a full summer or a single week or class, depending on availability.
A few that piqued our interest: Spanish immersion and Mandarin immersion for kids from prekindergarten through second grade, each meeting for an hour and a half once a week, the Spanish class on Tuesdays, the Mandaran class on Wednesdays. Prices vary, but scholarships may be available for some programs. A full list with prices can be found online at cmee.org.

Filmmaking at Guild Hall
Budding directors ages 8 to 11 can learn the basics of filmmaking in a weeklong workshop at Guild Hall starting on July 15.
Presented with the Hamptons International Film Festival and LTV, it will give kids a chance to work with film teachers and special guests to create video stories that express their vision as young artists, leading them from development of an idea to writing a script, acting it out, production, cinematography, and editing.
Two sessions will be offered: one from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., the other from 2 to 5 p.m. The cost is $350, $325 for museum members. Registration is with Anthony Madonna at 631-324-0806, extension 35, or [email protected]. Participants’ work will be screened for family and friends on June 20.

This Week at the Library
At the East Hampton Library, an outdoor paint party for high school students will kick off the week on Monday from 3 to 5 p.m., and the fun for kids will continue all week with science, movement, a movie, and slime making.
An educator from Cornell Cooperative Extension will be on hand for an insect story time and craft for ages 2 to 5 on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. Mr. Skip will make his first appearance of the summer at the library on Wednesday for a movement program for ages 2 and up at 3 p.m.
High school students have been invited to a potluck picnic on the lawn next Thursday at 3 p.m. Also that day, for younger children or Disney fans of any age, the library will show the 1992 animated movie “Aladdin” at 3 p.m. Kids in sixth through eighth grades can make slime of many varieties with ingredients provided by the library next Thursday at 4 p.m.
Tomorrow, there’s an outer space collage workshop for kids 4 and up at 2:30 p.m., and on Saturday high school students can take a practice ACT from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Registration is a must for all programs, as they often fill up in advance.
