Springs Invitational

The annual Artists of the Springs Invitational Exhibition, which traces its beginnings to 1967, will open at Ashawagh Hall tomorrow evening with a reception from 5 to 8 and continue through Aug. 11. This year’s curator, Peter Spacek, an artist and cartoonist for The Star, will lead a gallery tour on Saturday at noon.

In a statement, Mr. Spacek said there would be fewer artists than in years past in order to present the works without crowding. The show will be installed by theme: sea, land, figurative, abstract, and still life. Fifty percent of proceeds from sales will benefit the Springs Improvement Society, which will host the 87th annual Fisherman’s Fair on the grounds of Ashawagh Hall on Aug. 10 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Artists Alliance Studio Tour

The Artists Alliance of East Hampton will hold its 2019 open studio tour on Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The participating artists, who live in East Hampton, Sag Harbor, and Amagansett, are Marie Lombardi, Joan Klutch, Lucy Cookson, Kurt Giehl, Phyllis Hammond, Peter Gumpel, Gary Chiappa, Frank

Sofo, Nadine Daskaloff, Teresa Lawyer, Ted Asnis, Marcia Previti, and Deb Palmer. Details and a map are at aaeh.org.

Steampunk Lighting

“Interstellar,” an exhibition of Art Donovan’s newest sculptural lighting, will open at the Maidstone Hotel in East Hampton with a cocktail reception tomorrow at 6:30 p.m. It will remain on view through Labor Day, Sept. 2.

As both an artist and curator, Mr. Donovan is associated with Steampunk, which in a 2017 interview in The Star he defined as “essentially a celebration of the art and sciences of the Victorian era turned into a physical form.” He uses such materials as solid mahogany and brass in his creations, all of which incorporate “some sort of strange illumination or strange light bulbs.”

A tour of the show and dinner with the artist will take place on Aug. 15 at 6:30. Tickets are $65.

Group Show at Grenning

The Grenning Gallery in Sag Harbor will open “School’s Out,” a group show of classically trained painters, with a reception on Saturday from 6:30 to 8 p.m. The exhibition will continue through Aug. 18.

The work of five realist painters, Sarah Lamb, Anthony Ackrill, Ramiro, Melissa Franklin Sanchez, and Rachel Personett, will be shown with that of two impressionist painters, Tim McGuire and Tina Orsolic Dalessio. Chad Fisher, a classical sculptor whose public commissions include life-size bronze portraits of famous Philadelphia athletes, will show smaller works from his “Seven Deadly Sins” series.

Joanna McCarthy Survey

A retrospective of photographs by Joanna McCarthy, who lives in Sagaponack, is on view at the Rogers Memorial Library in Southampton from today through Aug. 31.

Ms. McCarthy began taking pictures during her career as a model when Hiro, a fashion photographer, let her use one of his Nikons. Her photographs soon appeared in Forbes, New York, and Popular Photography magazines, among others. While she developed a commercial clientele, she also exhibited and won awards for her fine-art work, which focuses on landscapes, nature, travel, people, and Americana.

Terry Elkins at Jermain

Terry Elkins, who draws inspiration from the farms, fields, old houses, barns, and the ocean and bays of the East End, will have a solo show at the John Jermain Memorial Library in Sag Harbor from Saturday through Sept. 15. A reception will take place on Aug. 10 from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m.

Mr. Elkins, who has lived and worked in a renovated potato barn in Sagaponack since 1989, often sets up his easel to paint on location. “Honestly,” he has said, “I think painting is just an excuse to be there and enjoy the view.”

Landscape Variations

“Landscapes,” a group exhibition that reflects the various ways artists approach the subject, is on view from today through Aug. 28 at the East End Culture Club in Southampton. A reception will take place Saturday evening from 5:30 to 7:30.

Organized by Clayton Calvert, the show includes work by Johnny Defeo, Sheila Isham, Kristin Simmons, Meir Srebriansky, Alex Nero, Onyedika Chuke, Zoe Schwartz, Alex Smetsky, Kyle Haddad Welch, Frank Webster, and Nicholas Menghini.

This article has been modified from its original and print versions to adjust the time and date of the curator's tour of the Artists of the Springs Invitational Exhibition, which was changed from Aug. 10 at 4 p.m. to Saturday at noon.
