On Saturday, a new show of RJT Haynes paintings will open at the Arts Center at Duck Creek in Springs.

“Mugshots” will feature portraiture, for the most part, even if the subject being portrayed is an animal or an object. “The title ‘Mugshots’ is a bit mischievous,” the artist said in a statement. “But there’s a thread of portraiture in all these works: people, animals, or objects, and — implicitly — their owners.”

Mr. Haynes studied German and philosophy at Oxford, and then lived for 17 years in a cottage without electricity in North Cornwall in the United Kingdom while he worked in nature conservation. His realist subject matter is often derived from nature or animals, even as he now divides his time among New York, Cornwall, and East Hampton. He said living without electricity made him more attuned to the seasonal changes in light and atmosphere.

A reception will be held on Saturday from 5 to 7 p.m., and the exhibition will remain on view through Aug. 25.
