A car struck and injured a bicyclist in an accident in front of Brent's Deli on Montauk Highway in Amagansett late Thursday morning.

Amagansett Fire Chief Ted Page said the bicyclist was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital, the nearest level-one trauma center, as a precaution after the crash, which occurred at 11:54 a.m. The bicyclist appeared to have facial and/or head injuries and was lying in the highway, just west of the crosswalk, as passers-by helped him. The nearby bicycle had a mangled front wheel.

Chief Page said the bicyclist was alert when the ambulance crew treated him on scene before taking him to the East Hampton Airport to meet the medevac helicopter.

The highway was briefly closed with traffic being diverted up Abraham’s Path.
