Jersey Boy
John Lloyd Young, who originated the role of Frankie Valli in Broadway’s Tony Award-winning musical “Jersey Boys,” will bring “John Lloyd Young’s Broadway” to Bay Street Theater in Sag Harbor on Monday at 8 p.m. Accompanied by Tommy Faragher on piano, Mr. Lloyd will perform songs from “The Wiz,” “Chicago,” “Hair,” “Dreamgirls,” and, of course, “Jersey Boys.”
In his review of “Jersey Boys” for The New York Times, Ben Brantley called Mr. Young “a genuine star-in-the-making” who “has crossed the line from exact impersonation into something more compelling.” Not one to be typecast, Mr. Young played Marius in “Les Miserables” at the Hollywood Bowl, guest-starred on Fox-TV’s “Glee” and CBS’s drama “Vegas,” and has performed at the White House, Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, the Kennedy Center, and Radio City Music Hall, among others. Tickets are $69 to $89.
Brazilian Jazz
The Hendrik Meurkens Quartet will bring an evening of Brazilian-influenced jazz to the terrace of the Parrish Art Museum in Water Mill Friday at 6 p.m. A harmonica and vibraphone virtuoso, Mr. Meurkens mastered both instruments as a teenager in Germany and pursued formal studies at the Berklee College of Music. He spent 10 years in Rio de Janeiro, immersing himself in that country’s music, before relocating to the United States in 1992.
Misha Tsiganov on piano, Joe Fitzgerald on bass, and Samuel Martinelli on drums round out the quartet. Tickets are $12, free for members and students. Guests have been encouraged to take chairs, blankets, and picnics.
From a Picoult Novel
Act I of “House Rules,” a musical based on the novel by Jodi Picoult, will be performed on Monday evening at 7 for the Theater and Opera Mondays series at the Southampton Arts Center. “House Rules” is the story of a forensics-obsessed teenager with high-functioning autism whose life is turned upside down when he is accused of murder. A pop score drives the story.
A panel discussion with Ms. Picoult, Dan Mertzlufft, who wrote the music for the play, and Kate Leonard, the lyricist, moderated by Timothy Allen McDonald, a playwright, will follow the concert. Tickets are $20, $15 for members.
Israeli Musicians
The annual Ronen Foundation concert, featuring outstanding young musicians who are serving in the Israel Defense Forces or recently discharged, will take place next Thursday at 5 p.m. at the Jewish Center of the Hamptons in East Hampton. Singers, violinists, pianists, and a harmonica player will perform. A reception will follow the free concert.
