A car struck and injured a bicyclist last Thursday morning in an accident near Brent’s Deli in Amagansett.
East Hampton Town police reported that Deborah M. Fisher, a 79-year-old driving without a valid license, was headed north on Cross Highway in a two-door 2014 Ford sedan, which had stopped at the light at Montauk Highway. When the light turned green, she told police she looked in both directions on the highway and saw nothing, so she proceeded through the intersection, colliding with a bicyclist, who was headed east. The accident occurred at 11:53 a.m.
Luke J. Nolan of Dallas, 24, was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital, the nearest level-one trauma center, with a head injury. The bicyclist appeared to have facial and/or head injuries and was lying in the highway, just west of the crosswalk, as passers-by helped him. The bicycle had a mangled front wheel.
The accident report indicated that Mr. Nolan had crossed against the signal at the traffic light and had failed to yield the right of way. Ms. Fisher was ticketed for driving without a license.
The highway was briefly closed.
