Eric Fischl has produced a powerful piece of artwork that represents “the madness of the moment,” he said, referring to the immigration crisis at the southern border. Titled “W.T.F.,” it is a response to “a level of inconceivable cruelty imposed on people who are suffering to begin with, desperately trying to get out of a bad situation, and finding themselves in one they thought would be better and of course it isn’t, because they’re treated like criminals and put in the most debased situations.”
Mr. Fischl, who lives on North Haven, has donated a limited series of prints of the work to the advocacy group Organizacion Latino-Americana of Eastern Long Island, which is selling them at $1,200 each as a fund-raiser.
“His support of OLA’s advocacy is ongoing and greatly appreciated,” said Minerva Perez, the organization’s executive director.
The original work was an oil on paper with digital elements incorporated, Mr. Fischl said. “It just calls up such a sense of questioning. It gets right at ‘How could this possibly be? What are we thinking? Who are we? What the what?’ ”
Prints can be purchased by credit card or check. Those who are interested can call OLA at 631-899-3441.
