An alleged drunken driver lost control of his car, causing it to roll over in Wainscott on Monday night, injuring his two passengers, including a woman who was partially ejected.

The East Hampton Town police, East Hampton Fire Department, and the East Hampton Village Ambulance Association were called to a single-car crash near the train trestle on Daniel's Hole Road at about 11:30 p.m. First responders found an older model Buick on its driver's side, up against the tree line of the southbound lane, just south of the overpass, Fire Chief Gerard Turza Jr. said on Tuesday morning.

The driver, Alex McCue, 29, of East Hampton, was driving a 1993 Buick when he hit a tree, causing the Buick to overturn, according to Town Police Captain Chris Anderson.

The driver was already out of the car when firefighters arrived. A man and a woman were both still in the Buick, Chief Turza said. The woman, identified by police as 21-year-old Karolina Kurasova, had been partially thrown from the car. Initially first responders were told she may have been pinned under the car. The department's heavy rescue team and the Suffolk County medevac helicopter were requested.

Heavy rescue personnel had to stabilize the Buick before the two passengers could be removed.

"It was determined that she was not pinned under the vehicle," Chief Turza said. Firefighters found that the woman had been sitting in the back seat and that "she was violently thrown into the front of the vehicle and was partially ejected out of the front driver side of the vehicle," he said.

None of the occupants had been wearing seatbelts, he said. None were believed to have life-threatening injuries. "The people are extremely lucky," he said. The car sustained significant damage, even inside of the vehicle. "They missed a nearby utility pole by inches," Chief Turza said.

Once heavy rescue personnel stabilized the vehicle, both female and male occupants were removed. The village ambulance transported all three to Stony Brook Southampton Hospital. Police identified the man as Victor Borisov, 31.

Mr. McCue was treated and released into police custody. He was due in East Hampton Town Justice Court for arraignment on a misdemeanor driving while intoxicated charge on Tuesday morning. Captain Anderson said he refused to take a breath test at police headquarters.
